πŸŽ„On the Fourth Day of Blogmas…

We are halfway through the second week of Advent, and I want to take a moment to focus on the second theme of Advent: Peace. We sing about peace in Christmas songs like “Silent Night” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing;” many people wish for world peace; and many others have lives marred by anxiety and fear, which effectively steal peace.

If so many people want peace, why is it so elusive? Many religions claim to offer lasting peace; but as a Christian, I believe Jesus when He says “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6 NKJV) In context, Jesus and His twelve closest disciples are partaking of the Passover meal before His crucifixion that will later be called “The Last Supper.” Jesus is encouraging the Twelve and leaving them with crucial knowledge about Himself and what to expect when He returns to heaven. After informing the Twelve that the Holy Spirit–also called the Helper–would comfort them when He departs, Jesus states “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27 NKJV)

What a bombshell statement! Jesus makes it clear that the peace He offers is distinctly different than the kind of peace the world offers. His encouragement to not allow our hearts to be troubled or afraid is only possible through the peace Christ gives. We cannot simply rely on our circumstances to give us peace; often times, challenging situations attempt to steal our peace. I was troubled recently by issues happening in my life and those I am close to. However, I believe God uses these as trials to test our faith–not because He doesn’t know how strong our faith in Him is, but because we don’t know. If we love God and are willing to ask Him for direction, surrendering what we want and agreeing with what He wants, we will see God work all our circumstances for our good and His glory. Romans 8:28 NKJV says “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to HIs purpose.”

I pray whatever season of life you are in–whether hectic or calm–will direct your attention to the One who is also known as the “Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 NKJV) He is capable and wants to carry your burdens. Life is not easy, but having Jesus on your side makes it much more bearable and enjoyable–especially in the most trying seasons of life. If I can pray for you more specifically, please send me an email or comment on this post. God bless you, and Merry Christmas! β€οΈπŸ’š
