Review of “A Noble Masquerade” by Kristi Ann Hunter

This book was suggested to me by my sister who is an avid Kristi Ann Hunter reader. This is the first book I’ve read of Hunter’s, and my sister explained it as a “Pride and Prejudice-type” story. After reading it, I somewhat agree with her; so let’s get on to the review!

Lady Miranda Hawthorne has tried to be a proper lady her entire life. Miranda has wanted to speak her mind many times; unfortunately Miranda’s station in life forbids her from giving voice to her witty and emotional thoughts, so she decides to begin writing letters addressed to her brother’s old school friend, the Duke of Marshington–letters she never intends to send. Suddenly, Miranda’s daily routine changes with the arrival of her brother’s new valet, Marlow, who seems to understand her in a way no one else does. But when Miranda discovers Marlow found one of her fake letters and accidentally mailed it to the unwitting duke, Miranda is more than a little embarrassed–and even more bewildered when the duke replies.

But there are secrets in the Hawthorne house, and with Marlow becoming more suspicious by the day, will Miranda have the courage to do what’s necessary to protect her family and her heart?

I have mixed reactions for this book. I loved it for the most part, but there were a couple things that bugged me. What I enjoyed most about the story was the fun relationship between the main couple! Of course the Pride and Prejudice feel to the story was a plus, and the witty banters Hunter penned were not unlike Jane Austen’s own. And although the characters were written as Christian, their faith wasn’t mentioned a lot so it didn’t seem to have that much influence on the story as a whole. There was also a small plot hole that I won’t mention of course, because I don’t wish to spoil the ending! Over all, I enjoyed the book but I just wish the ending had been a little more polished off.

My rating for A Noble Masquerade is ☕☕☕☕/5 coffees. Happy Reading!!
