As the political and social unrest increases in our nation, the United States of America, many wonder if there is any relief in sight. What many American citizens don’t realize is that the power to change the direction of the nation is in their one vote. As a Christian, I know God is the ultimate Sovereign and has the final say in all situations, political or otherwise. But at the same time, God has blessed Americans with the opportunity to make our voices heard at every level of government.
This book is not meant to sway the reader to vote for a certain political party or candidate, but instead encourages the reader to be an informed citizen and vote his or her values. Dr. Ben Carson writes of the importance of being involved in our nation’s government in diverse ways and of researching the facts about current issues, global and domestic. Carson also emphasizes that deciding force in America is summed up in the first three words of our constitution: We the People. The last chapter of this book also gives the reader a list of URLs to sites which have nonpartisan resources to inform any citizen who desires to learn more about current government affairs and candidates.
This book was informative to me and supplied great resources that I will be using in the coming months. I agree with Carson as he speaks of the shockingly uninformed populace who are apathetic towards their incredible right to vote. What an awesome blessing to be able to direct the course of a nation and have your voice heard on the national stage! It saddens me to think many people don’t realize the impact they can have by voting, but I’ll continue to pray and inform others of the difference it really makes!
All this to say, just remember God is the ultimate authority and whoever is voted into power is who He allows. Even and especially if you disagree with what they believe, as a Christian the most impactful action you can take is praying for our leaders. The Bible says in Romans 13:1 KJV, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God,” and in Jeremiah 29:7 KJV, “And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace” (emphasis added).
My rating for this book is ☕☕☕☕/5 coffees. See you in the next post, and happy reading!
Edit: Please join me in praying for God’s mercy and peace over Ukraine, and for many to come to Christ through this difficult time.
