As a self-proclaimed coffee aficionado and science enthusiast, this title captured my attention immediately. It was given to me as a Christmas gift last year (wow my family knows me well), and I dove into it right away!
The title itself explains what the book is about, but there’s so much more to making a cup of coffee than just spooning your choice of grounds into a filter and pouring hot water over it. Lani Kingston starts at the very beginning of the history of the coffee bean, its growth in popularity over the centuries, and the various methods of roasting and brewing that make each cup unique. Kingston describes the chemistry of the coffee bean and the effects that every stage of the growing process has on the final product. While this book is not meant to tell you how to make a perfect cup of coffee, it instead provides a great reference to what you can do to get the best coffee suitable to your preferences.
I liked this book for all the new knowledge I gained about coffee. I learned that there are many more varieties of coffee than I thought. I also liked the book for its simplicity. It is a short read, and each section is clearly explained. I also want to say I’m very thankful the Lord created coffee!!
My rating for this book is ☕☕☕☕/5 coffees. Haha, a coffee rating for a coffee book!
Happy Reading!
