Review of “In My Father’s House” by Corrie Ten Boom

I always enjoy reading a book by Corrie Ten Boom. She never fails to encourage me with the examples from her own life. Corrie was a Christian who lived in a town called Haarlem during the Nazi occupation of Holland, now the Netherlands, in World War II. Her world-famous book, The Hiding Place, tells the story of how Corrie, her sister Betsie, and their father helped Jews escape the country to avoid the Nazi concentration camps. It is an amazing story of faith in God’s divine will and safekeeping, and I heartily recommend everyone to read it.

Summary: In My Father’s House takes place in the years before World War II and The Hiding Place. Corrie recalls the adventures of her childhood, the growing pains of her adolescence, and her time of discipling the next generation through her Haarlem Girl’s Clubs. Most importantly, the book delves deep into Corrie’s family life, and how each of her family members helped shape Corrie into a devoted woman of God. Throughout her life, Corrie’s father Casper was always a constant source of Biblically based guidance and support. From start to finish, the book tells of the many moments Corrie’s father gently guided her and their family to a closer walk with God, never making a hasty decision but putting everything before the Lord in prayer.

My Opinion: As I said earlier, I deeply enjoy Corrie Ten Boom’s books. There are so many gold nuggets of inspirational examples! She was a woman who did her best to glorify God in every situation she endured. Reading this book is like sitting with your grandmother as she flips through an old photo album, telling you the story behind every picture; and I enjoyed learning about the events and people that influenced her life. One of the best things about In My Father’s House is that Corrie inserts Bible verses that apply to every circumstance. Isn’t it so amazing how God works? We shouldn’t be surprised, though, because He created everything so of course He always knows just what to say! 2 Timothy 3:16 KJV says “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

This was an entirely encouraging and uplifting book, and my rating for it is ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️/5 coffees. Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
