I burned the midnight oil on this one! I finished this little story just last night, and it was definitely worth staying up late. Side note, a goal with my blog this year is to write a review as soon as possible after I finish a book so that my final thoughts on it are still very fresh in my mind. The readers of my reviews will benefit more from this, and I’ll benefit from not having a rather large stack of books to write about! So without further ado, let’s get to the review!
Susanna Truitt is an up-and-coming landscape architect on St. Simons Island, Georgia, who has always carefully planned her life and followed the schedule. But when a twelve-year relationship suddenly comes to an end with no proposal in sight, Susanna feels like her world is crashing down around her. She just can’t see how God can create something wonderful out of all the mishaps and dead ends in her life. But when a handsome young stranger comes to her rescue, will she have the courage to take the leap of faith God is calling her towards?
Prince Nathaniel is anxious to get away from the pressures of his daily duties as the next king of Brighton, if only for a short while. Nate knows his free time is drawing to a close, especially with the decline of his father’s health. So when an opportunity arises to help a beautiful damsel in distress, he’s more than happy to lend a hand. As Nate grows closer to Susanna however, he realizes the importance of the responsibility to his kingdom and to his God. Will Nate be willing to trust God, the King of kings, with fulfilling his dreams for the future even if they seem impossible?
This book was amazing!! All the characters were well rounded, from Georgia all the way to Brighton. Everyone had something to contribute to Nate and Susanna’s journey, which made the story come alive and seem more real. I enjoyed the minute details Rachel Hauck used in creating the culture and history of the fabled kingdom of Brighton. I was also surprised at how well written the characters in the Georgia setting came across. They were not written as a stereotyped satire but instead personified the unique culture of the south. Being from the south myself, I was impressed with Hauck’s writing and how endearing her characters were.
If you’ve read my reviews enough, you know that the Christianity aspect of any story is the most important part for me. I loved how Nate and Susanna’s relationship quickly became rooted in prayer and faith in God. Even before they admitted they loved each other, they were united in their friendship by faith in the One True God. I also enjoyed reading their conversations because they always brought out the best in each other; each wanted the other to have the courage to be the person God was leading them to become. Praise the Lord for all the growing pains and adversities of life that bring us closer to Him and make our faith stronger!
My rating for this book is ☕☕☕☕☕/5 coffees. Wow, the first book of the year and it already has the best rating!
I can’t wait to delve into the stories God has lined up for me to read and live! Please comment if you have read any amazing books lately. Happy Reading!
