The official title of this book is The Fight of My Life: Persevering through Neurofibromatosis. This book was given to me by a friend, written by her son who had this illness. Ethan Brown wrote this book over a span three years, even as his illness became progressively worse. This book is an autobiography about Ethan’s journey with neurofibromatosis (NF), and also details his life before he was diagnosed with NF. Ethan candidly explains the difficult and often painful trials he has been through, and how they affected him physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
I was blown away by this book. I’d never even heard of this disease until I read Ethan’s story, and the friend who gave it to me never went into great detail explaining her son’s condition. The Fight of My Life put several things in perspective for me. Every day I wake up, believing my hearing and eyesight will work. I go about my day doing normal activities (walking, talking, etc.) never taking a second thought about it, nor doubting my body will do what I expect it to do. Reading Ethan’s story reminded me to not take these and other blessings for granted. There’s always going to be something to complain about, but maybe instead of complaining, take a moment to thank God for what He’s given you. I know I will. For non-believers, and probably some Christians, this isn’t easy. That’s why God gives us the Holy Spirit to help us do the things we ordinarily couldn’t, like forgiving. My favorite verse in the Bible states, “I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me,” Philippians 4:13 KJV. Imagine the possibilities! When you keep your focus on Jesus, anything is possible!
Ethan Brown went on to be with the Lord a few months after his book was published, but his life touched many people. God worked in Ethan’s life through this illness, and we’ll keep praying and working towards a cure for NF. Thanks for continuing this blogging journey with me, and I pray you were encouraged by this post.
My rating for this book is ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️/5 coffees. Happy reading!
